2km Schools Peace Walk 

 

On 16th June, 2026 we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Soweto Uprising - a moment that changed the course of history. To honour the bravery of the students of 1976, Race for Peace is proud to join forces with the Tsietsi Mashinini Foundation in a powerful global tribute.

As part of this remembrance, we will be inviting schools across cities hosting our races to lead a 2km Peace March - a symbolic walk to complete the peaceful protest that the children of Soweto were never allowed to finish.

These walks will not only honour the legacy of the youth who stood up for justice but will also offer today’s generation a chance to stand united – across borders, cultures, and time zones – in the spirit of peace, solidarity, and Ubuntu.
